What is Web Accessibility:

Your website is one of your most powerful business tools. It represents your brand, communicates your value, and connects you with customers. But what if a significant number of potential users can’t access it?

Web accessibility isn’t a trend, it’s a necessity. It means designing with intention, so everyone can engage with your brand, including people with visual, auditory, motor or cognitive disabilities.

How to Make Your Website More Inclusive:

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Add "Alt Text" to Images: Alt text provides a verbal description that screen readers can translate into sound, bringing your imagery to life for users with visual impairments.

  1. Ensure Full Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements like links, buttons, and forms should be usable with keys like Tab, Enter, and the Spacebar. This is essential for users who can't use a mouse. Be sure to include a clear visual indicator to show which element is currently selected.

  1. Prioritise Sufficient Colour Contrast: Make sure your text and background colours have enough contrast for easy readability, especially for those with low vision or colour blindness.

  1. Use Clear, Structured Headings: Organise your content with proper HTML heading tags (<h1>, <h2>) to help screen readers navigate your content more effectively. A well organised structure also helps all users find information quickly and easily.

The Benefits of Building an Accessible Website:

By making your website inclusive, you're not only improving the experience for users with disabilities, but also strengthening your brand’s reputation, boosting your SEO, and opening the door to a broader audience.
